Crock pot/slow cooker

I have a friend in the US who raves about her crock pot (slow cooker)
She tells me she'd be lost without it. She cooks her meat in it.

I always thought they were only useful for stews and the like.

Does anyone have one? What can you do with it?

My friend uses a slow cooker and goes on about how tender the meat is.
But what I'd really love is one of these, a remoska, like a slow cooker but more versatile, you can even do puds in it!
They do three sizes.
I'm saving up for one!

I've used a slow cooker in the past but I found the food was all mushy after it was cooked, we weren't keen.

I used to love my slow cooker, it is fantastic way. I used to prepare the night before and leave in fridge then plug in in the morning go to work all day and come home to a wonderful home cooked smell all around the house fantastic.

I love mine. You can do anything in them. You can do a batch of spag bol and let it simmer away all day keeping your cooker free to do other things with. I do a mean beef casserole in mine. Have been known to do roasts in it as well. Soup, chili. Anything you cook on your cooker, you can do in the slow cooker, just at a lower heat and cooks slower.
Agree with Becky though, have been eying up that Remoska for some time

We used to make stew when Brian and I were both working, prep it the night before, switch it on before work and then lovely stew at night, although ours was really old so it wouldn't thicken right. 10 minutes in a pot and some thickener later...delicious stew.

I think the only thing that puts me off buying another is the fact that you "have" to brown the meat first.

That, to me, completely removes the convenience factor.

Is it correct?

I just want to do what you are doing - fill it, plug it in, eat the contents
