does anyone know what this plant is

i found this plant growing in my garden (there were 2 of them)i didn't plant it and my youngest dog has started scratching his face, the vet asked if he could have came in to contact with anything and as he hasn't been for a walk for a few days i didn't think so,we have some cream to use to help with the scratching.i am curious to know the name and if it is poisonous,i have ripped them both up and will treat the roots tomorrow, any ideas??

i had ripped the plant up and forgot to photograph the leaves, they were kind of flat and a little bit furry they weren't round and weren't smooth edged(probably confused everyone now )

That looks like an aquilegia to me. I've never heard of them being poisonous. They're a common garden plant and they self-seed themselves everywhere so the seeds probably blew in from a neighbours garden.

My mistake. Just checked on this website and it is listed as poisonous, although a quick google search didn't bring up any very serious effects, and in fact some sites have it as an edible plant, so :smt102 .

The aquilegia (Columbine) is mildly poisonous, although the flowers are supposed to be edible and have been used in salads and teas.

Crocus says that the sap can cause skin irritation:

Blimey! The house we moved to in November has dozens of those about the garden. Will be doing a bit of digging-up before poopie arrives in two weeks!
