sounds horrible but spend a few days with a small water pistol with strong salty water in,
everytime the cat comes in hive a good spray,
(it wont make him ill but he wont like the taste and he will learn, also let the dogs chase him on long lines so you can stop them if necessarily as he might not got over fence first try) he will learn its not safe

haha nothing to add, but Sweep is so funny with cats, he'll give it the big i am to them, but then if they don't move, or worse walk towards him he gets really panicked. We have tortoises too, and he is TERRIFIED of them. he'll be in the garden and here them rustling and shoot back in the house tail between legs.

Ours have never bothered with cats unless the cats bother "our" cats and then they will chase them out of the garden.

I'm afraid we have a cat and we still get cats in our garden.

I wouldn't shut the door, as it is your dogs garden. Go out with the dog the first time or so to see what happens. Cats will 9 times out of 10 get out of the way quick enough (this happens IME) I'm sure after the cat gets chased it wont come back.

I have 2 cats and still get cats in the garden, Chilli is very sociable and brings his friends home with him. I won't allow my dogs to chase cats whether they be mine or not, I just squirt the garden hose in front of the dog and it soon gives up, these days they know better.

I sympathise with your situation! The chicks are spending time outside now and its already attracted the attention of the local cats. Luckly so far they have dashed off as soon as i open the door but if the dogs see them they will be in for a shock!!

Then again if they try to get my chickens i might have to let Raina out to give them a fright and encourage them not to come back . . .

We've rarely had cats in our garden, I'm hoping we don't get any in the new garden either. Though so long as they stay on the fence, my 'sight' hound doesn't seem to notice...

I'll be supervising the first few times Axel's in our new garden, and hopefully cats in the area will soon learn there's a dog there now.
