Worm prevention.

Our dog is four years old. He has regularly, four times a year, had Drontal for worm prevention. He has never been keen on it but we have managed by disguising in in a piece of hot dog or piece or cheese. The technique was to give hiim one undoctored piece followed immediately by another with a pill.
Subterfuge if you like.

No go this time. Tuna was suggested by one of the assistants at the pet shop. That's what she gives hers. Tried that. We even tried crushing the pills into a powder before mixing it with the tuna. He'll gobble up the tuna without the pills but won't go near it if it has Drontal in it.

Any suggestions?

I wouldn't mess around - he will just get more suspicious. If he won't eat it voluntarily, I would push it over the back of his tongue.

Thank you for your reply.
We did consider that but thought that would also may him suspicious and untrusting of us.

I've taught all mine to catch, so toss a treat one at a time, toss a tablet, toss a treat again and they just gobble them up, never had a problem.
Does he like marmite? try smearing it with Marmite and then toss it for him to catch if it doesn't get stuck to your fingers.

Thank you for the response.
Yes, ours can catch. If it was Drontal, I have a notion he would spit it out right quick as my American wife would say. We haven't yet tried Marmite. Worth a go, thanks.

Hal was a nightmare - Carole's suggestion worked with him and he would get a really tasty treat afterwards so he never bore a grudge!

Inside a blob of peanut butter might work. Harder to spit out if surrounded by sticky stuff - that's if he'll try to eat it in the first place

Thank you. We'll give that a try. He does like peanut butter.
