I just have to keep dissin` me dog!

Prince is getting a lot of admiring comments (usually from blokes) when we`re out and most can work out what cross he is, so I spend a lot of time saying how difficult / worky / active / pain in ass he is.
He doesn`t help by standing looking lovingly at me and hopefully waggling his Ballie (sigh).
No he`s not all those things. I just don`t want to promote this cross (GSD / Dobe) because it`s really not an easy one.
Do you ever try to put people off getting a dog like yours?

Yes, I am constantly telling people what a horrible colour Mouse and Boo are.

Goes something like this

Stranger: "What gorgeous colours! I've never seen one like that before!"

Me: "That's a good thing. they're both deaf and sight impaired because of their colour"

Stranger: "But they're so pretty!"

Me: "Yes they are, but I hate seeing the colour, means idiots are breeding them"

Stranger: "are they Albino?"

And discussion gets complicated from there

This is pretty much word for word with every stranger we meet who comments on them

Yes. People tend to fall hopelessly in love with Rupert for some reason And out here he keeps getting mistaken for a GWP. So I play up his bad points. I tell them a dog with a ridiculously high prey drive, little interest in food that's already dead, no interest in toys and the attention span of a gnat isn't much fun. Then there's his dog aggression added in to that. Then there are his allergies, I mention it costs me around 150 euros a month to feed him (roughly what it would cost for kibble) because of these allergies. Then the ear infections and skin problems resulting in high vet bills.

He's put several of my friends off getting a dog already. Much as they liked him they don't want the hassle of a dog like him.

I all ways tell people that Millie is shy then she walks up to them and then runs away but despite her odd character everyone all ways wants to make friends with her.

LOL - not surprised you get lots of attention, Prince looks so gorgeous

We do often get complimented on Dexter's looks and also his sweet nature. Someone even congratulated me for having 'a well trained dog' the other day!!

I'm always quick to remind people that lovely as Labs are, they can be a lot of hard work, are very energetic, and need a LOT of attention

I don't try and put people off, I just tell it to them how it is, both good and bad points.

I actually wouldn't care what cross he was if I saw him in the street - to me he's just a gorgeous lump of a dog

Prince is very handsome. And yes, I spend a lot of time telling people the TM might look very placid and friendly like a big teddy bear, but he has his moment. He's obstinate, noisy, always knows best, the breed need incredible socialisation and confident handling as puppies to become a nice friendly dog like mine, he is incredibly protective and will take matters into his own hands if he feels it's called for and finally he's not nicknamed JCB for nothing. Luckily, most people think shar-pei are going to be hard work and have health problems, which they insist on telling me about. So they are already just want to admire them from afar rather than get a puppy.

No lol, I usually have to do the opposite, Akitas have such a bad reputation! People fuss and ask what breed they are, then when i tell them they step back in horror, hmmm so you can make a wrong assumption about a breed without even recognising them, you gossiping tabloid reading thick small minded numpty! So i find myself having to big them up!

Keisha always gets a lot more admiring glances than Zeke, poor Zeke just sits in the background, she's the cheeky one, he's perfect - she's just more fluffy so gets more attention!
