I start weaning at 3 weeks and take mum out an hour before each food so the pups are hungry and watch until they start dropping of to sleep and then I let mum back in,

I never prevent a mother access to her puppies except for medical reasons. Puppies need access to their mother to learn their initial "social" skills.

I always feed them away from their mum.

I have two dogs whose mother was only allowed access to them for feeding & they both lack the skills they would have learnt from their mother. I did not realise that this had happened until three of us who have puppies from the litter got talking together. Hopefully the breeder is no longer breeding puppies of any breed

I think eight weeks should be the minimum zge that they leave Mum so that they pick up all the necessary social skills and also get used to all the noises around the home, i.e. hoover, washing machine, etc. etc and of course people. I really am very much opposed to puppies being taken away from Mum any earlier.

I like to have my pups at around 6 weeks so I can start socialisation as soon as possible. The bitch has usually had enough by then anyway! I did have one pup at 5.5 weeks (didn't realise until I saw his dob on his papers ) and he is probably the best socialised of all mine! I think a lot depends on how experienced the new home is.

Thats suprised me as your not supposed to sell a puppy before the age of 8 weeks, I know Petplan wont let you transfer a pup to new owners before 8 weeks.

By whose authority? And what has it got to do with Petplan?
