Toileting after leg op

Just wondering really....

Roxy had an op on thursday to remove a tumour from her leg.

She hasn't done a poo since Thursday morning and it's now Sunday morning.

Now, I'm aware she didn't have anything to eat on Thursday and very little on Friday. However, she had a small meal (Lily's Kitchen tray food) on Friday night with her meds and the same again twice yeterday and once this morning, plus a little bit of turkey in between.

She does a pee, then just sits there and shows no interest in doing her other business.

Presumably this is fairly normal and she'll do it when she's really needing?

She's normally a once to twice a day dog!

She may be a little constipated this often happens post operatively after little or no movement and lack of liquids etc.

Make sure she is drinking sufficiently, if necessary, by baiting the water with a little milk or stock flavouring.

Hmm, yes, that's a thought......it might well be that. Poor soul!

She is drinking okay and we are offering her fresh water umpteen times a day to make sure. I might try adding a little taster to the water though, see what she thinks of that.

Thanks.

Star was the same, a few days post op before she went. Probably a mix of the drugs during the op and no food for 24 hours and maybe a bit uncomfortable to squat.

Thanks all. More 'normal' than what I thought then! Thank god for that, I was getting quite concerned.

I just hope, if indeed she is, that she's not too badly constipated! I'll report back when she has done the deed!

I've had the same with some of my dogs. One had a cruciate and didnt 'go' for a couple of days and the other one had a gastric torsion and she went 5 days, quite worrying at the time as I thought it must all be backing up! However I think sometimes they can get a bit constipated on antibiotics.
