How much do babies cost?

and im not talking buying one on t'interweb either!!!

Aside from food, clothes and occasional toys how much do babies REALLY cost per month and what is it spent on?

Dont add in pram cot etc as that is initial layout but on a running cost basis?

Thanks

Alex

forgot to say - Dont count nappies as we would be using terry towels...

blimey, how long is a piece of string.......I`ll try and list what you need then you can price it. I did it ages ok. By the way, Terries work out just as expensive due to the initial outlay and washing costs....My dad used to work for them. Some of the shaped cotton nappies with disposable liners are cheaper. You have to have 3 kids to claw back all the costs apparently. \better for the landfills though!! i`ll get my thinking cap on.....

Loads. And the older they get the more expensive it becomes, until they get jobs of their own and can support themselves I think we could afford a mansion by now if we hadn't had two Sons.
Wouldn't get the love back from a pile of bricks though.

Accordingly to my SIL, too much!!

Mind you, she buys jars of baby food (which aren't cheap) and disposable nappies.....

So:

1) Milk - formula or breast (don't forget you may not have a choice in the matter) and then food (jars or homemade)
2) Nappies - whichever kind
3) Clothes - they grow so quick!
4) Toys

And that's just when they're babies!! Never mind when they grow up!

Initial outlay would be:

1) Cot
2) Pram/car seat/buggy
3) High chair
4) Walker
5) Bottles, dishes, etc
6) Other furniture - wardrobe/changing table etc.
7) Other miscellaneous stuff....

I guess they cost as much as you want. You can reduce the costs somewhat by making your own babyfood, using 2nd hand clothes where possible etc, but you're always going to have to buy something!!

i would aim to breast feed but formula apparently cost about £8-10 per week, nappies are initial outlay and i certainly would make my own baby food not jarred stuff!

but clothes - i know they grow quick but sainsburys and asda baby clothes are really cheap!
