Hello from West Yorkshire

Hi,

My name is Carl and i have just come across this site and thought i would say hello. I have recently bought a Hungarian Vizsla puppy who is 8 weeks old tomorrow. His name is Bruno and he is just so gorgeous. We had three pretty bad nights with him crying all night but now he has settled in just perfect. I have always owned the bull terrier breed and have never come across Vizslas until my partner suggested one. He has had his first vaccinations and we've got another two weeks before we can take him out. He is already 90% potty trained and we have just got him to sit which i am delighted with considering his young age. I am so looking forward to taking him out on long walks and stimulating him both mentally and physically. Roll on the next two weeks.

Hi Carl and welcome to Dogsey!

Congratulations on your new ginger addition, which will soon turn into a ginger addiction!

My advice is to take him out as much as you can now in your arms and socialise him as much as possible. We used to take ours out daily in our arms to the local shops and to sit outside Costa Coffee where he was very much admired and fussed. It really does make a huge difference to the whole socialisation process.

If you are a member of another site that has a book full of faces, then search for Vizsla groups in your area, especially Viz Wizz groups , getting a whole load of them together and going on a Viz Wizz is fantastic fun, the dogs love it!!

Short 5 minute sessions of training in the house with the basics are great for tiring them out too, every bit as good as physical exercise and as you've already discovered Vizsla's are very quick learners and eager to please.

Please do post some pictures so I can get giddy over your little ginger prince!!

Welcome to Dogsey Carl, I live in Huddersfield with my 4 dogs and a foster girl.

You can take your puppy out between vaccinations but carry him, don't put him on the ground, he needs socialising as much as possible now, it is the best age for it.

For exercise once he has had his vaccinations the ruling is, 5 minutes exercise for every month of his life, at 8 weeks old he should only have about 10 minutes walking a day. There are some breeds that may need a bit longer, I think Vizslas will be one of them so just add another 5 minutes to the time scale. There will be lots of opportunities for long walks once he has matured enough and better for doing it gradually now.

Can we have a photo of him please?
