Would they allow a barky shep? Jess is very dog orientated unless she can say hello (I prefer this to be offlead as she is less dominant offlead)

That was one of the problems with the training that we have just left. The other handlers didn't let Jess anywhere near their dogs because she barks?!

Well I certainly wouldn't mind!! I think as long as you spoke to our trainer first and got the go ahead it wouldn't be a problem the only worry is that we have a couple of dogs who could be a bit funny about being approached in a dominant manner. We have had many dogs with issues similar to this and worse but have always done our best to involve everyone.

She is strange as when she is off lead she will run up to dogs, but she will sniff and if they offer to play, she will, if not, she will come back (unless a game of chase starts. She LOVES this lol)

She is like two totally different dogs when on and off the lead. I think it is to do with not being socialised enough as a pup (she is a rescue), but we are slowly getting better with it

Would I be able to have the details for your club please?

Thanks so much. Jen x

Hey,

Don't know if this helps but I have met Jess and so has my big GSD, Zane. She's a lovely dog and Jen has worked miracles with her. Yes she can be loud and gobby but can anyone show me a GSD who isn't at times? Anyway, personally I think to have Jess (& Jen of course) at a training or agility club would only be an asset to that club, purely because of the improvements Jen has made with Jess since she had her.

Whilst on the subject of agility, does anyone know of a club where I can train/compete in agility without having to run with the dog myself? Teh reaosn is tha I have a stumpy left knee, most of whihc is held together with bits of metal and I can't run.
But I think it would be a shame if I couldn't find a club whereby I can train my dogs (Zane & yiannis particularly) for agility, but where they can learn via voice and or hand signals which way to go next.
I have seen a video of an american woman who managed this, the main advantage being the dog completes the course at it's own pace rather than that of it's owner. Although this was at the highest level of competition and to begin with I had intended to do it just for fun.
I doubt Ellie would be any good at agility and certainly wouldn't be suited to competition, although she's far more receptive to new things than my 2 boys. She's a typical lazy Akita and to run to get the ball and come back (as in flyball) is all she'd be able to do I think, whereas Zane and Yiannis have speed and suppleness on their side.

the place i go in stafford does agility, flyball, working trials, herding and gun dog training. she's also helped me stop my shep from barking at everything and all the people are very patience, especially with aggressive dogs.

Hi there. I go to a really good agility training club in Halesowen. H J M Agility it is run by Dawn. I take 2 dogs now, she is very patient with the dogs and both my daughter and myself really enjoy it there.
Hope this is of help.
