How was your dog trained?

Just curious as to how everyone`s dog was trained

Was it trained when you got it?
Did you do it yourself?
Did you send it to a residential training course?
Or did you take it to training classes?

May seem like a strange question but curiousity gets the better of me sometimes

I've never taken a dog to training classes, I've always done all the training myself and it's worked for me. Two of them were semi-trained when I got them as adult dogs though so they had a head start. I've had Meg since she was a young puppy but she was very easy to train because she's so bright and intelligent. If I had a more challenging dog I would certainly take them to classes.

Started basic training from when we got him.
Took to puppy classes but tbh it didn't really cover anything new.
Was going to do follow on training but unable to go in the end.
Carried on training ourselves.

Hi,
We used to go to ringcraft,we really enjoyed it,good experience for the dogs getting used to ben gone over.Since we have moved we don't have any ringcraft so that has to be done at home and while we are out and about.
Other training i teach them myself,i get satisfaction knowing i have trained them

My GSD, Flame, started puppy classes at 12 weeks and we continued through to an advanced training class up until last year. I continue to do bits of training with her myself.

My collie, Moss, started puppy classes at 12 weeks but we both got bored very quickly and so I taught him myself. I am now training him to work sheep and attend weekly group lessons as well as doing lots of training/practising during the week on our own.

I have to say that I would never send a dog away to be trained.

Mine all attend training class - obedience, agility and ringcraft but most of my training is really done at home.

when indie was a puppy we took her to classes. it was fun, but it was the start of her dog aggression.

i then began training her myself and got into a dog training career.

i think if u have the knowledge, do it yourself for sure. altho the advice from a trainer or knowledgable people can help wonders. esp this site

did try agility, but that went pair shaped after the second session when indie attacked another dog

For the last, can’t remember how many years, I have used a clicker, but I do have a breed that will not respond to anything but bribes, I don't call them by name I call come on boys biscuits but then again I am a B awful trainer.

We went to puppy socialisation classes and then started basic training class and are now in the 4th class up.

I do a bit of training each day but still go to weekly class as it is another way of continuing his socialisation with other dogs and is also good for learning to carry out commands with lots of distractions around.

Harley is 13 months old now so have been going for nearly a year.
