Pooping on Carpet

I have a 5 year old Malshi that has been pad trained since she was a puppy. Now for some reason she refuses to poop on her pad and has started pooping on the carpet in the dining room. I tried punishing her by locking her in the laundry room when she does it, and that hasn`t worked. I`m at a loss as to why she`s started this bad habit. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have no idea why she has started pooping on the carpet rather than he pad shutting her in the utility room as punishment won't work, she won't make the connection.
Maybe the first time she pooped on the carpet it was an accident and there is a lingering aroma which is why she is continuing to do it.
Just clean it thoroughly with a solution to eliminate the smell and place the puppy pad if you must use them on the spot she's favouring.
It's actually best to train them to go outside if possible.
