by the sounds of it, the dogs were high on adrenaline and so turned on him in the heat of the moment.
One dog was 'loaned' to a friend so that would make me thing guard dog.

Not quite what it seems as the guy intervened between two fighting dogs-a big no no. What a total plonker

I would try and split up a dog fight, would use something thou.

As for the dog it had known to be dog aggressive so another human error.

I wouldn't advise trying to split two GSDs males up on your own, especially as they were known not to be, shall I say, the best temperamented.

you can say that joedee but who realistically will leave 2 male gsds fighting? are you saying you wouldnt intervene?
If they were fighting properly and not just a scuffle(as it definately sounds it was serious) then they will cause serious injury to one another. I for one would not leave 2 dogs fighting withou intervening

I would if I was on my own, however my male GSDs never ever fought amongst themselves(the bitches yes the dogs no). I have split up dogs fighting, but have always had another person to help.

After 50 odd years owning GSDs I have had experience of some very nasty aggressive ones belonging to others

The risk is,as happened to this young man, if you do intervene alone is serious injury &/or death !

If there are two or more calm people then it can be done with no one put at risk, but if there is only one person then sorry no.

I cannot understand why the owner of the dogs did sweet F.A.
