Wow you don't hang about, don't know how familiar you are with working trials, but there is an open trial in November at Lower Withington, Near Knutsford, if you wanted to get in touch with them and pop along for a look. The North West society people are a vey friendly bunch.

I'm considering starting up sadies training again as its something I can (mostly) train on my own rather than have to go to regular lessons like with agility.

I did a 2hr old track with her this afternoon (complete with baby in tow lol) for the first time in over 18 months.. She really did enjoy herself.
Doing much of the training at home on my own also appeals to me, insofar as it is difficult for me (with kids, other dogs, farm etc) to get away as regularly as I might like. I do sometimes find it hard to motivate myself though, but hubby has offered to be helper, I have a friend who is happy to come up once a week - or as often as we can manage - and help, and also the motivation to progress for the next group session should certainly give me that kick up the ass

Really pleased Sadie enjoyed her track

I am really lucky to find this great group. I did start tracking/trailing training with a one to one trainer with Yogi a couple of years ago, but I wasn't so keen on all the methods used, so it is fab to find a group with like minded individuals, and where the trainers have such a wealth of experience and knowledge. I do hope you find somewhere to train.

Just a quick question for you experts please.

I did some training with Zak tonight. He did well with his track and sendaway, but again with the search square he needed the items to be thrown a short way before he would pick them up. He was happy to indicate them, but however much I encouraged him, he wouldn't pick them up until they had been thrown/kicked/moved a short way. I am surmising that he will eventually realise that he gets to play with them (with me) if he collects and retrieves them to me. However, my question is, that he is really high and excited when doing this type of searching. He brings the articles back to hand, but when I play with him with the item he gets very excited and managed to catch my hand with his teeth a few times tonight as the articles were quite small.

So, how do I bring his excitement levels down, while still providing him with enough reward to motivate him to fetch them to me?
