To muzzle or not to muzzle?

Ive got 2 dogs boarding for the weekend, one is a rottie x collie who can be snappy with other dogs, he doesnt give any warning when he does snap and I dont trust him meeting other dogs at all. Me and mum are taking them for a long walk in a bit, he will be on lead and I will keep him away from other dogs as much as I can but obviously with it being a sunny saturday the weekend idiots will be out.... do you think it would be worth muzzling him just to be on the safe side? His owner doesnt bother but she rarely walks where other dogs would be.

Hmm, I cant decide...

I'd definitely muzzle him! Different if he's a dog who's prone to being attacked and couldn't defend himself, but if HE is the snappy one, then it goes without saying? Less stress for you too! Hope all goes well on your walk.

Better safe than sorry I say.

If you muzzle him, you'll have a nice relaxed incident free walk.
If you don't, you could be in a whole heap of trouble if he goes for another dog and causes damage.

But what do you mean by snappy? If you feel the dog could cause damage and bite another dog, or grab hold of it in some way then i'd agree about the muzzle. I have a dog whom i'd call snappy, especially on a lead but I dont muzzle him because it's all show and no contact.

I'd muzzle him just because he's not your dog and you don't need the hassle/liability. Also, while I'm sure you can read dog well, this dog doesn't give earnings and you don't know it that well. For example, I read Cain well so don't muzzle him most places, but if my OH walks him I insist muzzles Cain as he can't read him the same.

Is he accustomed to a muzzle? If not then chances are you aren't going to be able to just put one on him and him be fine with it.

And to be honest, I'm with Leanne. The only reason I muzzled Rupert was because he would do serious damage if he got hold of another dog. If he'd been all noise and no contact I wouldn't have bothered.
