Looks like a mallard in eclipse plumage. I have asked my daughter as she is quite good at these things. She says it is a muscovy duck. Apparently they don't make as much noise as other ducks and are good mums. Although that is a drake. I think?

Quite right Brenda it is both a muscovy and a drake, we have had them on the place over the years, but if you don't clip their wings they beggar off! The last ones hopped it and lived for years on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal where they were popular with the local kiddies, who used to feed them bread and such. Footnote: Although duck lovers may not like this bit - they are extremely tasty and don't have the degree of subcutaneous fat you find in other deliberately bred table ducks.
