Visitors' shoes in house - off or on?

Daft question really.

Do you ask visitors to your home to take their shoes off before coming in?

I never have, nor have I been asked to until recently. I would automatically if they were muddy but being asked for the first time ever made me wonder how many others ask that visitors remove their footwear.

No...unless they are children and they have just been on the garden playing!!!!

I had a friend a while ago who asked you to take your shoes off and lent you a pair of slippers....very weird to be honest.....

I wouldn't dream of asking someone to take their shoes off...not when I have 3 dogs in the house!!!!! (Apart from the obvious muck the hounds traipse in....they also like feet!!!!!! )

No!!
I think its a bit rude to be honest!!
One of my friends does it and then when they come here they take their shoes off automatically! ....then i tell em its prob safer to keep them on what with a great big greyhound treading on your toes!!

But i dont put nice shoes on to take em off when i go out!! ( cos i shrink 3 inches and i look slimmer in heels, lol!!

If visitors take their shoes off I advise them to put them back on, particularly if they are wearing white socks!

No, we don't - no point with the dogs.

But my parents always did. Their carpets were always in immaculate condition, even with 4 kids, so I could see their point. But then it wasn't like they had lots of new visitors & most of the people who visisted did the same in their own houses anyway.

I must admit having been brought up that way, when I'm visiting, I usually still ask the host if they want me to.
