Puppy Classes - Do I wait until after pups second injections?

Hello

Silly question probably, but should I wait until my pup, Ruby, has had her second vaccinations? I ask because she had the first on 24th April and so have her second around 15th May. She is already 13 weeks old and so if I wait she will be about 15 weeks.

The short answer is yes + about 5 days afterwards. But, you can still socialise your puppy carry her around to meet as many people as you can do and as many situations just don't put her down on the floor where other dogs (and cat's and foxes for that matter) may have been beforehand.

I would think it would be better to wait, I had the same problem with Poppy, she was 15 weeks when we got her so by the time she had had her second injection she was soooo behind with her training and socialisation. I did carry here around, but it's not like carrying an 8 week old pup

I have never waited - but that is a personal choice and not what the vets reccomend.

However - any puppy I have is mixing with anything up to 10 dogs who I am not going to stop taking for walks.

ETA - it will also depend on the rule at your puppy class. The trainer may not accept them without the second jab.

All the classes around here will not let a puppy in until its had all its injections. We need to show documentation of the paperwork to make sure they have been given them

Hi-I have always been been advised to wait until 2nd vacc. has been given and then 10-14 days after that before taking out for walks-seems like forever! agree with others you can still socialise by carrying puppy-getting used to everyday noises like traffic etc.

Your only choice is if your vet surgery holds puppy parties and this will give him a chance to meet all the other puppies awaiting their 2nd jabs, plus they do a bit of training and a bit of play. My dog training (2 different clubs) insisted on seeing the vaccination certificates for BOTH jabs before they'd let us start. Phone your vets, or maybe other vets who do have these puppy parties, but be prepared, some of them can be a bit wild!
