upside down fish

I think I heard that you can get something to put in the water if you have a fish that floats upside down all the time.

He isn't dead!!! honest.
when I turn him over he swims fine but if he isn't swimming he just floats the wrong way up.

Can anyone tell me what the stuff might be to put in the water.
Thanks

I've not heard of that but I believe it is a problem with their swim bladders which causes them to swim upside down.

It is a swim bladder problem. they can correct it themselves - but that is rare, normally you need to isolate them in bowl floated in the main tank (if its a community tank). There may be products which can help such as some kind of water tonic but you would proably have to go to a specialist aquarium place to get the right advice on which one would be best.

we have put him in his own tank, but OH says to feed him to one of the dogs!!!
An old wives tale was to put a drop of whisky in the tank.

If you go to an aquarium shop they should be able to give you something to put in the water with him, it does sound like a swim bladder problem, but aquarium shops deals with this sort of thing all the time so will be able to advise you as to the most appropriate product to use. Please don't follow the old wives advice and put any alcohol in the water, it just makes them frisky because they are suffering, not because it's helping!!

Turn the tank upside down ?

Kidding. I used to have a fish that wouldn't sink. He'd swim like mad down the way and as soon as he stopped he'd just pop back up - often belly up.

Well just to reassure you I don't and wouldn't put whisky in the tank,(drink it yes, in tank NO)
Have been reading up and looks like this may not be a thing that can be resolved. For larger Koi Carp which are worth lots of money they can have loads of tests and get injection and things, but I'm afraid that poor wee George will have to float around the wrong way up indefinatly.
Have put some stuff in the tank from the fish place but we don't have a specialist shop up here so that's all I can do just now.
this morning he is floating the wrong way up at the bottlom of the tanks, so that's different.

Its definately typical of swim bladder probs.
When I had fish that this happened to in the past I was always advised by a specialist place to feed bloodworms which help ease it and it did always work for mine. That said, they have to be given at soonest opportunity from onset of the problem and as your fish is at the bottom of the tank now I don`t know if its too late or not
