But for starters they were working at loss making mines and mines that needed modernising. There were also a huge number of miners who were at profitable mines who wanted to keep working or miners that wanted to keep working to qualify for social benefits. The NUM held many of them to ransom and they were subjected to physcial abuse and threats from those miners - WHY? because they rejected the stupid unionist idea that they had to ddo what everyone else wanted and followed their right to go to work Because of the NUM's law breaking tactics those miners suffered much more than they had to as it was the cash rich NUM who left them to fend for themselves on handouts.

A few people in Argentina...

They invaded the Falklands and were the initial aggressors?

She destroyed, single handedly, entire communities and they are still suffering to date. The whole area around pits went downhill rapidly once the pits shut and I know personally many people who are still suffering.

So she should have just let the unions run roughshod, calling the shots and kept loss making mines ticking over to satisfy them. The unions that had driven the country into the position of having to get its house in order in the first place. She didnt destroy any areas singlehandedly - the unions did.

What socialist government? Did I miss a socialist government???????? You're surely not referring to Blair and Brown are you??? Socialist???

Yeah Blair and Brown former members of the Socialist Party, former CND activists and in the words of one of their wives in May 2008 Socialists that dropped the hat when they saw no one would wear it and left it off when they realised it was a hat that didnt fit. still the theme of knowing how to spend other peoples money has persisted in both

As for the gap between the haves and have nots...it's far greater now thanks to policies Thatcher put in place.

What a cop out - instead of blaming someone whos been gone nearly twenty years, how about suggest an alternative. The gap is greater now because this government has absolutely sold out the working man and taxed him half to death - who should have been in inplace of Thatcher? What should they have done and what should be done now to redress it? - who in the last 30 years would have done a better job and what should have been done to a) get the country on the right track back then? b) solve these problems that 'Thatcher' causes today?

my answers ? a) break the backs of unions destroying the country and empowering people to provde for themselve and giving incentives like pioneering possibilities to own their own homes - thats what she did.

I dont have to answer the second one as present day problems are present day probelms and critics should give alternatives - not cop out answers.

Here here.

She shouldn't have a state funeral no, as it would ultimately be made a mockery of.
It wouldnt be made a mockery at all as those that mocked her as a whole have a very quiet protest these days> Her critics saw their great white hope ride into town in the form of the smiling assasin only to get sold down the river through both policy and sleaze - their response - oh he wasnt a socialist after all and its still Thatchers fault cos theres no way im gonna blame the party I so bolshily backed 11 years ago - that would be admitting to a) being wrong and b) not having any alernative ideas of your own.
You cant keep blaming Thatcher for the last 20 years - even Ben Elton has had the goood grace to write West End musicals these days rather than contradict himself with his tired old stand up routine - So be fair offer some alternatives.

They didn't have unions in solicitor's offices, accountant's offices, etc. they only seemed to have them in very large factories in my day, why was that then????? Does that mean all smaller businesses who didn't have them or wouldn't entertain them were b*stards to work for then? Not in my day they weren't, I enjoyed working in all of them!

If I ever had gone into a large factory or somewhere, where I was forced to join a union I'd probably have left, coz like I say, why should I have jeopardised my OWN job which I might have been very happy doing, just because some other bod suddenly got unhappy about something I didn't agree with?? LIke I said, I don't do sheep, I do my own thing and I wouldn't have been happy sitting out in the road on a cold winter's day when I could have been slaving away in a nice warm office, just to satisfy somebody's gripe I didn't even know and above all something I might NOT have agreed with either?! It's all wrong to me, hence why I don't like unions. Each to their own.

Nickyboy, needless to say I dont agree with you...but don't ahve the time right now to dissect the history of the last 20 to 30 years....have things to do.
I would suggest you ask ex mining communities who they blame for their poverty and the closure of the pits. I know the answer they would give as most of my family live in those places, not sure you do.

Don't call me sunshine please.
You have no idea who I am so don't tell me what my version of democracy is.
