Agility

Is 7 too old for a dog to start agility training?

I would say it depends on the dog. Does it show any signs of being creaky after a very long walk or in cold damp weather? I had a Springer with chronic arthritis at the age of 9 and it was first evident 2 or 3 years earlier. As I said, it depends on the dog some are creak-free to a ripe old age.

If she is full of bounce then I am sure it will do you both good
I know a lady who trained her collie when she was young but then things got in the way, the dog started really getting old
She was training her new dog and the older dog was crying for a shot
after a short while just playing about a little agility the old dog now has a lovely trim tummy and a new lease of life

Just keep a close eye on your dog and take it easy - should be OK

No I don't think its too old as long as the owner is sensible.

Hoki's been doing it less than a year and she's 8 or 9 years old with 2 gammy knees. She was only doing small jumps to start with but can now easily clear the middle height (but we don't ask her to try for more). Its done wonders for her and she loves every minute of it.

So at that age they may never compete but that's no reason not to do it

ETA here's a wee video of her in action

our 13 year old still has a go (in summer...)

i dont think 7's too old at all as long as they are fit and healthy!!!

(when i say a 13 year old does it i mean like 6 inch jumps a tunnel and weaves really spaced out.... but its like crufts to him )

Hoki is doing great! Nice to see
Your both having fun - and looks like there is a bit of speed there - and better weaves than Ben
- those jumps are pretty high - not as high as large but they are higher than medium
Look forward to seeing you in Jan
