Frozen AI is particularly important in places like Australia where quarantine makes the cost of importing a mature dog astronomical . . . but you can bring across a few straws of semen and bring in genes for a whole litter for a few grand.
Chilled AI is very practical for avoiding the costs and disruptions of travel. Plus it encourages people to do progesterone testing, and thus tends to get the timing right (resulting in larger litters).

I think AI is an excellent idea (providing it is from a reliable source ) it could be the saviour of some breeds particular those with diminishing numbers or serious inherited health problems.
