need a dog to groom in south wales

1st the good news there is finally a space for me on a local dog grooming course (WOO HOO) I have been waiting a little over a year for.

Now the problems the course starts on the 20th of May and Gracie is entered in a show which is easy to rectify we will simply miss the show, the next problem is Gracie is due in season anytime soon and I have to take her to Bury-St-Edmunds (other side of the country) to be mated again easily solved I will just have to miss a day or two of the course, now the biggy Gracie is the out going confidant dog that I was hoping to train on; if she’s in season there is no way I’m taking her anywhere near intact males other than Brandon (stud dog)

Yes I have Oliver who has twice the coat and at home he is wonderful to groom, he gets in and out of the shower like a dream shakes on command so I don’t get wet, gives paw for his nail’s trimmed and is so patient with me but he is spooked at new people and surrounding’s he was well socialised as a pup but is just timid.

All my friends have short smooth haired dogs (nothing to trim), show goldens (can’t practise on them) or dogs who hate there paws touched and will bite if you try (attached to my fingers) Guess I’m just going to have to wait and see how things work out if anyone is intrested in my using there dog please pm me complete novice only experienced in Golden retriever grooming at the moment

Thank you for the well wishes , fingers crossed, I took Gracie in October last year after a number of blood test to determine optimum time but sadly she had gone over so hopefully this time there will be pups and I wont have to disappoint the prospective homes a second time

Awww I wish you lived closer to me - you could do my dog with pleasure (a Bichon) I have just booked him in to be groomed this morning and he has to wait 3 weeks - just hope he doesn't get too hot in the meantime

Hi Grace how about contacting anyone who runs a local training class for volunteers ? You could offer to do any takers free of charge Hope it goes well for you.

Pity you didn't live near me, I've just had to book Blackie to get trimmed and groomed, mind you you would have to count your fingers afterwards, he is a bit snappy about his back end and paws.

or local rescues..... i'm sure they will have a dog that could do with a groom.
if only you lived closer you could have my 2......... they love it and don't mind strangers or their feet.
you can groom all day and still get more.

Thanks for the suggestions I belong to two training classes one is breed specific the other specialises in obedience, I will be hopefully taking Ollie so would like a completely different type of coat to deal with the people in the second class compete so could not guarantee me a dog as they travel to the different shows each weekend. (which I haven’t entered due to Gracie’s imminent season)

I have contacted a friend of mine who runs the breed rescue for golden retrievers club of Wales and tomorrow night I am going to see Caroline who trained both Ollie and Gracie for there good citizen award to see if anyone in her class is willing she also works for the local dog pound so hopefully I will have a dog to train on (if not I have a very large fluff cat I could pretend was a dog)

Suki doesn't have a long coat but you could practice on her nails if that's any help - we're not far from Cardiff
