Training treats

What are the best treats to use?

At the moment im using pets at home training treats with rabbit. The dogs like them and respond well to them, however Im looking for a higher value treat for recall training with distractions! I was thinking of cubes of cheese!
Would this be okay?
I need something that wont crumble in my little coachies bag!

cheese would be fine, but i have found that warmed up hot dogs or smoked sausage works very well, so does tuna/liver cake

I can recommend the "lite" version of tinned hot dog sausages. They're cheap, they freeze well & defrost quickly, they don't crumble & you can cut them up into really small pieces that a dog eat really quickly. Downside is probably the salt content ~ but in moderation, they're great.

I buy liver when I see it reduced in the supermarket then just bake it in the oven for 15-20 mins. You can cut it into very small pieces, it holds together well, I keep out what I need and freeze the rest.

I've never met a dog that didn't love it!

If you`ve got a short dog or one who grabs at food a good thing to use is the cheese spread in tubes. You just hold the tube and squeeze a little out.

Brilliant idea. Wish I'd known that when Tilly was a pup. A baby terrier hanging off your fingers hurts!

Tuna bread is wonderful stuff and only takes afew minutes to prepare and cook.

Can of budget tuna, a couple of eggs, some powdered garlic and flour (wheat if you dog is not intolerant of it, or any other kind really).

Mix the tuna, eggs and garlic to a paste, then add enough flour to make a dough. Spread it out thinly (about 1 cm) in a flattish oiled microwaveable dish, then zap it for around five to six minutes. Let it cool then cut it into small pieces.
It stinks the house out but the dogs love it.

I used to dry liver in the oven for an hour or so but this is so much easier and easier on the electricity bill. It's also much lower in calories than cheese.
