Rescue sites

All the dogs on the rescue sites, are these just a small number of dogs they have? Do they only go on the site if they don't find a home within a certain time?

I imagine it would vary between rescues. Some have volunteers to keep websites updated frequently, some just don't have the time so will only put a selection of dogs on (and some will have a forum that's kept a little more up to date)

the 3 local rescues in Birmingham put ALL of their dogs onto their sites as soon as they come to the rescue. If it takes a while for a dog to find a new forever home then that dog may be on the front page as "dog of the week" or similar to promote him/her.

I don't know about larger rescues or others outside of Birmingham though.

It depends on the Rescue. I don`t think many Rescues have time to update their websites frequently, so it is always worth phoning or visiting.

Agree with the others that it depends on the rescue. I've walked dogs at Dogs Trut that haven't appeared on their website just yet although I do think they try and get them all on as quickly as possible.

Thanks all.
Was just as I was on the SSPCA site and dogs trust, and they seem to have the same dogs on for months and months without adding new ones. I can't really visit any rescue places at the moment (main one being because I am not actually looking just now lol), and they are quite far away etc, was just wanting to get a feel of what kinds of dogs were going into rescue round here.

Well my last visit to the SSPCA was 3 years ago, but at that time the dogs they had in bore no resemblance to what they had on the website.

The SSPCA website is centrally organised and I guess the local centres don't always update the information.

If/when you are ready, its best to give them a call to see what they have in.

I know that Many Tears Animal Rescue update their site several times a day. If a dog is available it will be on the site.
