Fewer Foxes this year?

I've just realised that the hills have been very quiet over the past couple of months.

Over the past couple of years we've had night after night of fox calling in late January & February (which drives Stumpy insane - she hates foxes with a passion).

But nothing at all this year.

I'm wondering what effect all the snow has had - whether there are fewer foxes about this year, or whether they've just gone elsewhere to find their mates.

Anyone else usually hear the foxes during mating season and if so, have they been quieter round your way this year?

Don't hear any round here, tho I do hear what sounds like an owl sometimes!

Do foxes always stick around the same area? Maybe they've found a new den?

we have a few around here not many!
Its now that wildlife hospitals will be looking at releasing long standing patients too.
Foxes dont always stay with the same area so might have moved on, ifs a fox feels its threatened when has babies or is due, she will move to another area.

All I know is that Diesel is seeing less of his enemies, I never really thought of it, I never had any problems, use to see a few at night time, but the last I saw was during the day, and I swear it use to just come out to annoy Diesel and then went back to bed, as no other dog walkers saw it!! I've not heard any about either, so I wonder what's happened.

I hear them often when I walk the dogs in some of the local fields at night. They make a horrible noise...almost like a child screaming. Never fails to make me jump out of my skin!

Have not seen many - but they are flipping noisy at night!

Tend to get in screaming matches with the owls!

My brother in law has plenty, all looking remarkably healthy - fed on best dog food! He has 5 come every day to get fed. Badgers - usually has 3-5 but this year only two. When I was at his house last Sunday - in daylight, a Fox strolled right across his lawn, wish I had had my camera handy. Used to see a pair when out walking the dogs.

Come to think of it I've only heard them calling one night this year, usually it goes on for ages! I wonder where they've gotten to.
