Yet another Laptop question - Sorry!

Does anybody know how long the battery is meant to last on these laptops because the one we got said over 3 hours but it is only lasting about 1 hr 20 minutes, does that seem right I just wondered if anything I am doing on the computer will use the battery up quicker. My other half used it for 35 mins last night (when it was fully charged) to play that card game that is on the computer I turned it on this morning and installed a disc which hadn't been installed and after 45 minutes it ran out of battery The battery takes more than 2 hrs to charge up and then only lasts this long which is a bit dissappointing to say the least. Yesterday it said it had 30% battery left and then went out of battery 5-10 mins later

Average is about 6 hours but it depends on whether the laptop/battery are new and a variety of other factors. Definitely should not go in that short a time. May be a dodgy battery. Would definitely get it looked at.
Can probably be a bit less vague if I know the model of laptop and how old everything is.

Are you sure you are charging the battery up properly?
Batteries should be run right down, with no power left before charging them up, or they loose their capacity

Yes I am charging the battery until the amber light goes green like it says in the book. It has been run right down every time before I have charged it up again because it run down and then turned itself off whilst I was installing some software
