I've heard of a few people using Tramadol as an alternative to Metacam with less side effects, may be worth looking into

I've never heard of this before, but I think it definitely sounds worth a try.

My dog Zeus suffered with arthritis terribly, at one time. He was on monthly injections of cathropen, daily tablets of rimadril and glycloflex- glycloflex being a mix of herbal remedies. As a mix they seemed to work. I hope this helps. X
