How about compromising with a Breed Rescue? I personally would go for a slightly older pup but then their babyhood doesn`t last long does it?
Come on, let`s face it...you`re going to look into a little dog`s eyes and all your plans are going to go out of the window anyway!

I know...they have that's the problem....
Thrown everything to the wind and now we are confused. Admittedly it doesn't take a lot...

We have been going through the exact same problem recently and have decided on a rescue
Beau will benefit more from an older dog rather that a pup as I feel he would regress too much and the thought of all our hard work going out the window does not appeal
The plan was always for 2 RR and then rescue but we are just changing the order round
Because of your experience and because Cosmo has lived with a pup before, I think all options would work.
I really am of no help

If you don't have a clear idea of what you want, why not look down the rescue route first? then if you don't find a dog that suits your needs, maybe start thinking about specfic breeds and breeders (or breed rescues).

Well if it were me it would be pedigree pup BUT it's you LOL! - so maybe Breed Rescue as suggested.

I like having them from puppies and I like to know what I'm getting really and knowing their background - although I did have a heinz as a child who was absolutely nuts !

I know of some lovely Gordon pups available at the mo in the Midlands LOL!

No one can answer that silly.

Go for whichever will work well with Cosmo and the Biffster, be it young, old, mongrel or ped, rescue or bought.

I'd go for a rescue dog personally - i've got a retired rescue grey and shes got such a great temperament, docile, great with the kids, affectionate..........they make brilliant pets. But i agree with what others have said, you could go to a breed specific rescue if you have a certain breed in mind.

I had to re-home my JRT because he got too aggressive, he bit one of my kids. So having a rescue dog was my way of making up for this (hopefully) and also i suppose to ease my guilt.
