Burnley dog death man to be sentenced

A Burnley man has admitted to failing to look after two dogs which died in his house.

Jamie Broadbent (29) of Hobart Street, Burnley, pleaded guilty before the town’s magistrates to abandoning two dogs, which died from dehydration.

The RSPCA brought the prosecution after they were called to the house in Bacup by the landlord after Broadbent had moved five weeks previously.

The dogs, a German shepherd named Roxy, and a terrier named Cassie, died sometime between February 1st and February 28th this year.

They were found in an upstairs bedroom by RSPCA inspectors. The door handle to the bedroom had been removed.

Mr Christopher Wyatt (prosecuting) said: “This is a rather bizarre case as the defendant was still living in the house for a few days after one of the dogs had died.

“It is also strange because the RSPCA found two half-full bags of dog food in the room with the dogs.”

The court heard that the defendant, who had no previous convictions, could not explain his actions.

Magistrates adjourned sentencing until January 8th to allow for a probation report to be made.

What a slow, horrible death for those dogs, and what an evil man the owner is.
