Yeast infection in dogs ears.

Hi my sisters Dog a terrier keeps getting yeast infections in his ears.
He is just over a year old and he has had it a few times now.
My sister was told to bath it in diluted vinegar, but it just seems to make the inside of his ears very hot and red like it is making it worse, I told her to stop that as it is normally live yoguart you use for yeast infections.
Just wondered if anyone else has this problem with their dogs ears? and what they do or use

Have a look for TEP powder online. I ised it on my dog (along with antibiotics) when he had a yeast infection in his ears. It also keeps ear mites away.

Poppy is prone to this being a spaniel. I use an ear cleanser from the pet shop twice a week, wipe round with a fragrance free baby wipe every other day - taking care not to poke, and only give treats that do not contain yeast to keep it at bay. Gravy Bones etc are high in yeast.

If the smell changes, I get Otomax ear drops from the vets.

Thornit powder has recently been recommended on another recent thread 'Ear scratching' for problem ears but I don't know if it would work for yeast infections - anyone know?

I don't know much about yeast infections, but I have heard that as much as possible foods which feed the yeasts should be avoided - mainly starchy, sugary foods. I'm sure you can find that info on the web if you google yeast infections and foods to avoid.

I'm sure someone with more experience will soon help.

I use Thornitt powder for my 3 spaniels, never had a problem with their ears since. Make sure the hair around the ear hole is short too, this allows air to circulate.

Was it a vet who suggested vinegar? I`ve never heard of it before. My GSP Shamus had a yeast ear infection and the vet gave us Surolan which cleared it up. I`ve alway believed that ears shouldn`t be cleaned out- apart from cleaning the outer part - as it`s so easy to make them worse. It`s so tempting to poke down into the ear canal ...and compact the wax.

I wonder if it is supposed to be dilute vinegar? Glad she's not doing it again though.
