Actually, it was more the legality of the guy using a gun on the land that I was questioning if, as the dog owner says, he is not a farmer. However, as is wife is a tenant farmer that question has been answered.

Horrible incident for all concerned and no matter what the rights and wrongs, the poor dog lost his life.

As previously said, this sort of case highlights the necessity of keeping dogs on lead if there is any doubt whatsoever about being able to keep them under control

My heart goes out to the owners who must be and obviously are totally devastated, but the Law is very clear and we should all be very aware of it

i think both partys are in the wrong to a point
i dont think the farmer needed to shoot the dog when he did, but who knows how much damage it really did,
and yeas the dog should have been onlead if its recall wasnt reliable.
people have to be careful around farm animals and lots of people arnt,
somone let their dog of lead walking through a herd of bullocks and the poor dog got killed because the cattle didnt like it, when i went over to get rid of the cattle and talk to the owners they just said well your dogs are off lead.
yes but all the cattle see my dogs everyday and know them as well as they know me.
