Sorry, I have been foloowing this for a while and feel a need to get out the old orange box and step up...

It's easy to be duped by these places. I mean if you went straight to the breeders the alarm bells would ring loud and clear. Multiple bitches, barns, dirty whelping pens... But once the pups have been cleaned up, de-fleaed, wormed put into nice clean purpose built pens, I'm sure the staff do their best to socialise them and keep them looking fit and healthy (I mean they have to, they need to present their merchandise in the best way possible). It looks clean and slick and professional, the puppies look happy and healthy and the Celebrity endorsements give you a sense that they must be trustworthy.

Why wouldn't you trust them? Why wouldn't you fall in love and think that this would be just the sort of place to get your puppy from? I mean you have a money back guarantee! It takes a few months down the line probably before either the rot sets in and you realise that your pup has problems.. Or you are one of the lucky ones and your pup is fine.. Maybe you never realise what you funded, or maybe you come on to a dog forum and have a horrible awakening!

So what can we do?

We need to raise awareness of the place. We need to make a stand and let people know before they go, not have to find out later. I seem to recall last time this was raised here, the poster said they would contact the BBC and suggest a watchdog or panorama program... Maybe we should start a petition, or all write to the TV..

We all make mistakes. We all do things in ignorance we regret when we have more information. But now we have information and knowledge if we know this, but do nothing, then we are accomplices. We may as well go and pack the puppies ourselves. We can't sit in judgement of people that buy puppies from these places (I'm not pointing the finger and saying particular people have been sitting in Judgement, I mean all of us, myself included) when we had the power to warn them, to stop them and make the lives of these puppies and their poor dams better.

I'll pop the orange box back under the stairs now.. But I for one will be writing to the BBC and will add my voice to petitions against this store and others like it. They need to be closed down, or people need to be made quite clear what they are and where their puppies came from.

Hi,

I had never heard of Dogs $ You before reading this thread. I am astounded that "doggy teaco" is allowed to continue trading.

I'm also disgusted at the people who work there. NO matter how desperate I am for work, I would never work in such a place.

I will be writing to those who set it up, my MP (particularly as they opened another branch last summer according to their website), BBC and ITV. Maybe nothing will come of it, but it's worth a shot.

Laura xx

There have been quite a few demonstrations outside these stores, it has not made any real difference as far as I can see although its worth continuing, I get messages and invites from organisers of thes demos, via f**book, most of the demos have been outside the leeds brance, but the Manchester brance is the original one that has been going for MANY years, people do need to be aware of the pain they trade in. we get many dogs sold by these people brought into the rescue I work at for rehoming, the people that owned these dogs dont realise the fact they bought their dogs from this place is probably the very reason why they end up having to rehome the dogs, because many have bad temperments, illnesses they cannot afford to pay vet bills for etc, its a cryiong shame this place is allowed to continue, but the fact is they also have a pretty good store as far as training aids leads, collors, toys, dog/pet food so even if people dont buy a dog from them they will help fund this establishment by buying other products.

Lets not ignore that fact that buyers from this sort of outlet are also the ones who have done zero research into sourcing their dog, are least prepared or least equipped to deal with their new family member.

I am in agreement with those who argue that there is a plethora of information available on how to source a good breeder. The buyers share culpability in the misery they help to perpetuate. Trade continues even with demonstrations in front of the store!

Yes but if they stop one person from buying a puppy then in my book that's a success although sadly there are many more who will buy
Also as has been said they have a good pet store which will bring the punters in.
