Daily Thread, Thursday, 5th July

Good morning all. I hope you and your four legged friends are all fit and in fine fettle.

Harvey, good idea about your arch but then so is the silver birch tree too. You on the spot will know which idea is best. One thought the tree is likely to last longer than an arch!

Griff hope your little friend is on the mend and hope you are feeling better too.

Lynn, hope home hunting is still going well.

Have a good day everyone, stay cool and dry and above all safe and well. God bless.

Morning Moyra and all who follow.

Very warm here already today.
Going to see a house tonight Moyra in the next village. also have our eye on a little bungalow just down the road off a little lane only thing is it's non standard construction. Apparently the sons grew up there and their parents built it and lived in it for 60 to 70 years. Expect they have passed on now or one has and other is in a home. Have emailed a couple of surveyors to see if they could pop along and do a survey possibly and let us know what the construction is.

We feel it may be very small inside although the sons have told the agent they were brought up there.
I am viewing it tomorrow afternoon. We shall see might be a contender might not.

griff hope Kota is better today.
Same for Tyto Brenda.
Harvey the idea of the arch sounds lovely. We had those metal ones and the wind broke them the clematis weight and the wind they couldn't cope. We now have a lovely big wooden cemented into the ground.
One of the broken ones we salvaged the good bits and made small tunnell type arch instead.

Hope everyone and all four legged friends are well today.

Good morning Moyra, Lynn and all who follow

Happy house viewing today Lynn. Bungalow looks nice but kitchen very small. I wonder what it is constructed off.

Both tree and arch sound nice Harvey.

Hope Kota is better this morning.

Very misty here first thing but the sun is now trying to come out. Have managed to rig up some sort of mesh cage for another group of sprouts to keep the butterflies off.

Hope all two and four legged are keeping well

Have a good day and stay safe.

Thanks all, the swelling is still there...it may be a tiny bit smaller...I am hoping so
Lynn, I think it is brilliant that you are able to choose the home that you want this time instead of having to make do
Brenda, hope Tyto is better today
Moyra, when will you hear about your scan results?

Morning Sue and griff.
Just off the phone with a surveyor who has given us some tips.
He had a look from the pictures and said he cannot tell for sure what it is constructed of but it does look like it's rendered.
Problem is it may well be lined with asbestos. so you cannot rewire or hang anything because you start to deteriorate the asbestos and it's possible that is already done if they have hung things and screwed things and hung things on walls.
You can have an asbestos survey done but of course you would have to make an offer and if there are problems I don't want to potentially lose the house if I like it and make an offer.
Oh decisions decisions will go and view both an then think about it.
I worry as this will be left to the boys and I do not want to leave them something that may well be at the end of it's shelf life by then or difficult to sell for whatever reason.

If it is of non standard construction beware. First is a possible mortgage problem either buying or selling. Next is alterations, you may find any you would like to do may need specialists to carry out the work, not your average builder.
those little alarm bells have started ringing about that house.

Yes i was right it is in the blurb

With stunning creek views you can watch the boats pass you back door. Located in Upwell, this bungalow is of non traditional construction and therefore offered to cash buyers only.

So no one can be given a mortgage on it so it would be hard to sell on.

To me it looks like an updated pre war prefabricated asbestos house and the blurb seems to confirm it.

If not it will be of concrete construction and there will be moisture problems inside as the walls can't breathe. and if they crack wow deep deep problems.

The outside rendering could be hiding a lot of existing problems already

Look as if it has been recently done up to sell, new rendering (obviously) new fence and hedge neatly trimmed.

If asking my advice it would be walk away while you can

Thanks Barry fear you are right the surveyor said as much to. As mentioned asbestos survey would be needed first. To much hassle methinks and our property will be left to our boys and do not want to leave them a headache.
I shall view it out of interest but doubt it will go any further.

Got my sights set on the house up the road. Agent we are with had to ring for something pulled it up and said it looks a lovely house. We shall see I have choices this time and i am using them.

Ps Harvey you were right about the agent funny thing was they marketed this house same office when we purchased and were lovely. This lad is a young arrogant whippersnapper and needed reminding to mind his manners.
I can be very good at that having had two young lads myself who have lovely manners.

Ha ha Barry.

Forgot to say the surveyor pulled up the picture and wonders if it's timber framed as its a home build but the question is what is it lined with and a good possibility of asbestos as it was built around the 50's 60's.

As he said though without the asbestos survey you wouldn't know what it was lined with and or an invasive survey. Not prepared to commit far enough to allow that and although an excellent price I expect it would be expensive so might as well spend that money on a traditional built house.

I would get really annoyed at having to deal with rude people and why on earth aren't people just upfront and declare what the property contains...save a lot of wasted time and money! There will always be somebody familiar with that type of property who will buy...I mean, I have never bought anything expensive..let alone a house but I imagine a survey is not cheap.
Met Steve after his meeting at work , went to wetherspoons for lunch, we have decided that we will stick to my local, he prefers the food and surroundings... people kept coming and standing and staring at us eating...felt like I was in the zoo! Was so cramped too
