Mucus/Phlegm in throat..

Morning everyone - I've asked a question of Ben's Mum but she isn't well and I'm sure she has other things on her mind at the moment so am throwing this open in the hope that someone will be able to give me some advice.
Basically after 2 teeth extractions in October I started to have a foul taste in my mouth (I had abcesses on both teeth apparently) and things have gradually got worse to the point that I feel like I've got a wad of chewing gum stuck in my throat - nothing shifts it - not coughing (I haven't got a cough by the way) or throwing up. THe only relief really is going to bed and lying down. I've been to 3 doctors and an ENT specialist now. The lastest result was Friday when he stuck a camera up my nose and told me I was 100 per cent okay, no infections, no problems and that my throat was dry and that was why the mucus was getting stuck??? he advised me to sip water on a half hourly basis and use a strong saline nasal spray morning and evening. He told me it might take up to a month to go away. My feeling is that I've let 'nature take it's course' since November and I'm at the point now where I'm making myself sick a couple of times a day to no effect and my 8 at night I'm ready to tear my throat out, it feels like a wadge of gum stuck there........has anyone else experienced anything like this? and if so what did you do?
Have tried Otrivine, honey and lemon, anti histamines

Gill clearly this is driving you nuts, can imagine must be very frustrating
As you have seen 3 docs and a specialist and they can't find a definite problem( all well and good but you're still having to live with this )
Been having a look at things recommended for lubricating the throat, some of which you've used. There is one that is great apparently and that's pineapple juice( just the juice no bits)not sure if you've tried that but maybe worth a go.Speaking of "go" may want to check how much you can take daily before the bathroom becomes your best friend
Hope others can offer advice and help you out...wish you well

Hello Gill, has your Doctor mentioned Post Nasal Drip ?
Nasonex is often prescribed for this.

Some people use a neti pot to do a nasal flush with saline and say it helps.
I have used one, it is very refreshing .

Thank you Lacey - yes I kind of panic. I'm home on my own at the minute in the middle of the spanish campo, not a good place to be. I'm trying to stay calm but it's pretty hard. My husband came home for a week because I was in such a state but went back yesterday at my instigation! I just wish I'd gone back to the UK with him. Not sure whether I'm coming or going at the moment.

Gill. Seeing as 3 docs can't find anything do you think it might be psychological?Like you are convinced something is there but it's all in your mind I might be way off track here but it might be something to think about. (((Hugs)))

Well the Doctor who sent me to the Specialist did but the Specialist didn't mention anything at all - just said that the mucus was dry and that was why it wasn't dissipating as it should. I'm not sure I can get Nasonex over here. The saline spray he gave me says strength 3 but to be honest can't seem to see it's doing a lot of good.

Hi Lynne, definitely not........I wish.........to be honest I never thought it was anything serious in the first place and of course I'm pleased he's confirmed this but it doesn't help that I have this problem -

Gill,I hope you don't mind me asking but you said you make yourself sick a couple of times a day..I take it that means inducing vomiting?if that's the case my advice would be...please stop..doing that can lead to serious health issues. Can tell by your posts that your literally at your wits end,but doing that won't help...seriously
If I got that part wrong I'm sorry.
Have everything crossed that you can find an answer(( hugs))

Thanks Lacey, trouble is it gets to the point where I am soo desperate that I have to do something to try and get rid of it - it doesn't work and this afternoon made my throat feel even worse - the Doctor did say it could take up to a month to get rid of this but I don't think he can possibly appreciate how distressing this feels and how panic stricken it makes me.

I know this sounds daft but here goes Manuka Honey my Dad suffer a lot from mucus/phlegm and since taking the honey he started with 2 x teaspoon daily, now just 1/2 a teaspoon in the morning (which he says clears the mucus) within half an hour. I started getting him the 24+ grade and he is now on 12+ and says it helps greatly. Dad is in his mid80's, and taking it for about 14 months now.
