Not really to be honest - although both my breeds live to a reasonable average age (god willing!).

No, it wasnt something I considered, but then they arent known to have a drammatically short life span in general.

Nope, never given it a thought. Life spans are just a general guide though they can live much longer or much less.

Yes I did.

I love Bernese, but the short life span really put me off.

hmmm, yes and no really

Not in relation to the individual dog but more in relation to the mix of dogs we have.

We have always had GSDs and Great Danes. The average life span for a Dane is around 6-8 whereas for the GSD is it longer, around 10-12 so we have not tended to have young pups or old dogs together but more a mixture of ages.

I have to say though, the relatively short average life span of the Danes has never put us off having them. As said, individual dogs can far outlive the averages that are banded around and I would far rather have them than not.

Yes, life span is a big deal for me. Of course it varies depending on the dog but at the same time, I want to think that if things go well I'll have a good 13/14 years with my dog.

I've been put off a lot of the giant breeds because, as much as I love the dogs, the life spans are too short for me

The only dog i know of to have a short life span is the great dane, but its not a breed i have considered having though.

I often wonder how long Bailey is going to be around! Wolfhounds average 5-7 yrs and retrievers 10+ - hopefully he'll be 10+

xx
