SIRIUS® Sniffers! Scent-ability Training for Fun and Focus in Companion Dogs

Oxfordshire Animal Behaviour Centre is proud to be bringing you Kelly Gorman Dunbar's first ever UK seminar at The Kennel Club Building!

Kelly Gorman Dunbar is a co-founder and the executive editor of dogstardaily.com and a contributing editor at dogtime.com and Animal Cafe. She is the Founder and President of Open Paw and consults for animal shelters on matters ranging from layout, to employee and animal training protocols and procedures.

Kelly is also Director of Dr Ian Dunbar's Center for Applied Animal Behavior, where she recruits and trains the instructors for the Dunbar family business, SIRIUS Puppy & Dog Training, based in Berkeley, California (US). She is the creator of the SIRIUS Sniffers scent-detection programme, and is in the process of bringing the French sport of cavage (truffle hunting) to the United States. Kelly has titled her French Bulldog Hugo-Louis via the National Association of Canine Scent Work (US) and enjoys competing in both NACSW nose work and the American Kennel Club (AKC) rally trials with her dogs.

Does your dog have an overactive nose? Is your dog’s need to ‘sniff’ being ignored leading to frustration and undesirable behaviours? Are you a trainer and/or behaviourist wishing to add canine scent-detection skills your tool kit?
Whether you are an ordinary dog owner and your dog has an active nose, a canine enthusiast who simply enjoys training your dog(s), or a professional wanting to help your clients’ scent-active dogs, this seminar is for you!

Channelling a dog’s innate need to use its nose can prevent a dog from becoming frustrated and hyperactive, as well as help to counteract obsessive scent-tracking and unresponsiveness on walks. It is also a great way to combine a dog’s natural scenting ability with that of performing a task, helping to build confidence, and promote mental stimulation while expending energy - all leading to a more fulfilled dog.

Kelly Gorman Dunbar is a world-renowned dog trainer and an expert on canine scent-detection and nose games. Kelly will be presenting her SIRIUS Sniffers programme, which will outline the many different ways a dog can be started on scent-detection work. Kelly will also explain and demonstrate how to bring out, engage, and build confidence - as well as focus, in companion dogs. Because the programme was devised for family dogs, dogs are taught to find basic household items – but the signature scents used and how the skills are applied are varied.

This seminar is suitable for dogs of any age, size, breed-type, or personality.

Seminar details:

The two days will consist of lectures, practical scent work with working participants and their dogs in the arena, and Q&A sessions.

Tickets are available for Attendee Only or Working Participant (owner and dog taking part in practical work). Working Participant places are limited to 20 - these will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Please note that working participants will be split into morning and afternoon groups and that only one dog will be working in the arena at any one time.

Working participant dogs must be confined to a crate in the arena while they are not working. Please note that as it may still be warm in September, we would strongly discourage attendees from keeping their dog(s) in cars. The Oxfordshire Animal Behaviour Centre will not be held responsible for the security and safety of dogs being kept in cars in the car park. Please also note that children are not allowed at the seminar.

Accommodation:

The Stoneleigh Park Lodge offers a discount to guests attending events at the Kennel Club Building and also accommodates dogs. There is also a cheaper hostel and a campsite in Stoneleigh Park. A full accommodation list will be sent with acknowledgement email.
