Update......

Well I phonbed earlier and dad said she was being referred to a specialist as the paoin is not easing at all, that was all the info he had.

So I phoned back and got mum, now she is still a little confused because of the painkillers but what she said to me today didn't really make a lot of sense.

The Doctor said they have to get top the root of what is causing this - I thought they had - her gall bladder and her spine?) and that they had got the reults of her blood tests back, they had all come back as clear except for 1 which showed she has a blood disorder

So they took more blood today to test for Protein electro...something or other, mum couldn't remember , she also has a referral to a haaemotologist at the hospital which should take a couple of weeks and the doctor has requested a full body and bone scan (however there will be a long wait for that - I guess that means she can't be too concerned???)

Her back and spine is indeed causing some ofthe pain however they think the blood disorder is to do with the pain in and around her chest cavity and abdomen. She said oh like anaemia and the doc said no not exactly, we will know more when todays test results come back, come and see me Wednesday to discuss them

I offered to go with her so I can try to get 1st hand what is being said but she said she's fine and will go on her own (dad takes her and waits on her)

I mean blood disorder??? What is that...I knmow its all just guess work, but how can a blood disorder cause ppain, surely there areno nerves etc in blood

So wait now till Wednesday ...tick tock tick tock...I am not good at this patience thing.....

OMG Lynne, so sorry to hear all this latest news on Mum. Not a lot we can do really but speculate is there. Jenny might know something coz she's good at things like this perhaps? Or Becky? Don't start looking things up on t'internet though will ya and start scaring yourself

With my sensible hat on, could I suggest that you find out who your mum's specialist is, either via your gp or the hospital (she must have come out with a hospital reference or name on some paperwork???). These specialists have secretaries, and you could speak to her in the first instance, and ask to be put on his "to do" list and he will ring you when he gets down to your name! That's what I've done in the past and they're very willing to speak to close relatives about things like this to put your mind at rest!

Deep breaths Lynne, I'm sure it's not as bad as we could imagine. I know it sounds bad, but they could use that terminology, i.e. "blood disorder" for any number of things, i.e. increased liver enzymes, increased white or red cells, it could be anything Lynne, so don't start worrying too much until you know more.

What about actually phoning her gp, you ARE her daughter afterall, and he might be willing to answer your questions, or go down there to see him???

All the best, I know how worried you are.xxxxx

Thanks H, fortunately my mums doc is the same as my own doc and I do have an appt there myself next week. I am not sure she will have a specialist re this latest development as this was only discovered by means of the blood tests the doc took from her last week to see why the painkillers weren't really taking effect. I can always ask though. Dad is being very little help to me at the mo as he is one of those laid back people who outwardly worries about nothing...he just waits till something actually happens THEN deals with it. Whos Jenny? By Becky did you mean Wishbone? I can always ask and see if there are any common "blood disorders" I will definitely see what if anything my doc can tell me when I go next week, and it will be after her next appt too so I might even have some proper info to ask him questions about

By Jen I mean Nippy!

When you think about it Lynne, if blood is not "normal" then of course, the could class it as a "blood disorder" to them?? What else could they call it? I'm sure it's just a matter of something is not quite right with it and something has elevated levels and they need to do another test for that particular thing, whatever that might be. Your dad sounds like my Dave All the best, and try and ask your own doc then.xxxxxxx

Gosh, I've only just read this thread Lynne, how awful for your mum and all of you to have to go through this at any time of year, let alone Christmas.

I do hope they manage to get her sorted out so that she is no longer suffering so badly.

Big hugs to you all xxx
