What is the biggest problem in the dog world today?

What do you think is the one single thing that far outweighs everything else when it comes to what's wrong in the dog world today? And how can we fix it?

Bad owners?
Bad press coverage?
Lack of education?
Bad breeding?
What??

Lack of Education

If the general public were better educated, the press would feel presured into reporting responsibly, therefore not such bad coverage, people would be aware of puppy farmers and the realities of dog health, which would mean less demand for unreputable breeders, and as there would be only decent breeders left, there would be less sold to unsuitable people, which there wouldn't be many of as they would be mostly educated, so would see the issues for themselves.

I think mass education is so important.

I would say lack of education as the other three you mentioned and the majority of other problems in the dog world all stem from lack of education.

How we can fix it?
Will need to think more on this, as although I have a few ideas, I will need to think which are the best and most plausible.

How about nastiness? Seriously, you have to love dogs a hellovalot to put up with some of the things that happen. Having just 'getting back into' the showring again, it's amazing the attitude I'm already flacking. I shudder to think how these people treat people who enquire about puppies!

But, with the labelling of crossbreed dogs these days, I do think that perhaps lack of education would supercede that... The fact that people spend upwards of $1000 on a crossbreed, I think, speaks volumes about lack of education.

Fixing nastiness - everyone just be a little nicer a bit more forgiving and a bit more receptive? Try to be the person you want other people to be.

Fixing education - I think the internet has so much information that IT'S HERE if you want it. But the fact is that people often buy dogs on impulse and don't do the information thing before doing the actual dog buying. I'm not sure how we can get the information out. We could do big advertising campaigns, but that money could equally go into saving the dogs in the wrong situation because of impulse buying. But is education and sacraficing a few dogs a better solution in the long run?

I was initially going to opt for bad owners but I think a lack of education can encompass that.

People need to educate themselves on what is involved with taking on a dog in terms of socialisation, health, laws, neutering, stimulation etc.

Many people seem to take a dog on a whim without fully understanding what input that dog requires if it's to be an upstanding member of the community and hence we get badly behaved dogs owned by peope who have no idea how to control them.

I think there should be a drive by the government, canine societies and the KC to try and make people realise that a dog is a huge investment, it's not just part of the furniture.

I too would go with bad owners, although education might fix them - because the bad owners do seem to be incredibly stupid.

Today's Society, we live in a I want and I want it now throw away society. Nobody has to save any more to buy things and they can just go out and get with little thought process and can get rid of just as easily when it becomes too much trouble.
I think education is the key but we need to get people before the fact not after when it may be too late and this is where the popular press should be stepping in. I reckon that the vast majority of people who buy 'inappropriately' more than likely read them so that is where it needs to be. In short simple to understand terms and not too much info at once!

Lack of regulation. Any numpty can have a dog, which can be lethal in the wrong hands, yet they need lessons/insurance and a licence to drive a car, somewhere someone has their priorities all wrong.
Definitely a lack of regulation, if dog ownership was very strictly regulated, education would inevitably follow.

Definately Lack of education, you can't regulate numptiness away but you might be able to educate it out of them
