Kali at 11 (Border Collie)

11 or not, my blue-eyed Boy is still alert, and ready to keep an eye open for possible intruders!

I think he's in pretty good shape for his years (11 of the very best); I wish I was half as fit as he appears to be, and that I had as few "senior moments"! He has the occasional moment when he seems to have forgotten what a particular instruction means, but they are few and far-between. By and large, he is still doing what he has always done - being a nuclear-powered toerag, quite capable of towing me flat on the ground, preferably into a good wet patch of MUD!

He's maybe a kilo or so over his ideal weight, but it's coming off through strict dieting (well, he has had the odd extra bit of beef jerky), but its crunchiness is good for his teeth, which were specifically commented on by the vet last week - "Hmmmm, teeth - brilliant white, as usual" (I'm sure they will last him for the rest of his life).

His heart is fine, his joints are free of arthritis, his coat gleams, and he hears everything, even if he pretends not to. His eyesight seems to be fine (ever since he was a little pup, he has watched the helicopters that pass by here (he boggles when he's told to fetch one, though!) and he still pursues flies.

In this pic, he's probably watching out for cats (he hates them

) as he has been scragged by cats a few times, and he enjoys swearing at them

. His particular enemy is a grey one with a white tail, who ignores the wild barked abuse and just sits there, giving him the finger, feline-style (you know how good cats are at that!).

I could only replace him in terms of keeping our dog number up - his character is irreplaceable, IMO!
