The Mali is super high drive and very enjoyable to work I love their speed and agility they are increcible to watch .
The GSD I also like especially from working lines. I have a GSD pup at the moment who will be handed on at about a year old he is steady and consistent , I just passed on a Mali pup to a colleague who was a whirlwind .
I have to say I dont have any favourites just enjoy getting the chance to work them both.

I have working gundogs. To answer the retirement question first, I have 2 fully retired dogs - a pointer and a springer. I retired my springer, Holly, fully a couple of seasons ago when she was nearly 10. I felt the days were getting to hard for her and she no longer was as excited about coming out with us. My pointer, Goldy, was retired at 10 I think. She did come out with us a couple of days but at the end of the counting season, she retired.

I have springers, gwps, pointers and an english setter. The spaniels are used for beating, picking up, wildfowling, rough shooting. The oldest gwp and 2 pointers are used for grouse counting in spring and summer. The youngest gwp and the english setter will be used for grouse counting in March. They are youngsters and have been in training. I will also be shooting over Teal, gwp, as well as doing other bits and bobs with her. I'm also thinking about shooting grouse over my setter. I'll see how she comes on.

I love watching my dogs work. Their whole persona changes and they absolutely love it.

Helen
