The "plant"

During our weekly trip to the unsupermarket, I spotted a pot-plant. The tag with the barcode on it said "Goldcrest" - it looks like a small fir tree, but is quite a light shade of green (I'm sure someone here will know it!), and, as it was only £2.99, we bought it.

The laugh came when it was scanned through the checkout - the till screen flickered and gurgled, and finally decided to call it "foliage" - descriptive, perhaps, but not exactly accurate!

You could have said it was called 'celery' which also has 'foliage' and it would have cost even less then

Good idea, Mini, but I suspect that even an Orkney checkout operator mioght have known it wasn't celery!

I'm just waiting for the local polisman to come by and accuse us of growing cannabis! The local polis is a nice enough guy, but he ain't that bright!
