Fun Dog Walk

Last weekend a friend & I organised a mystery dog walk plus "treasure hunt" for all the dogs & owners that had been through training classes. It was great fun & we all ended up in the gardens of a dog friendly pub for drinks & lunch, followed by a stroll back to where we'd left the cars.

My friend & I got up early Sunday morning & set out the course, using brightly-coloured tags pinned to trees to show the way. We also gave each team a list of a dozen or so things to collect on the way, then set each team off at 5 min intervals & asked the last team to collect the tags & any instructions pinned to the trees.

Some of the items to collect were relatively easy. e.g. 3 types of funghi, holly berries, a feather etc, but some were impossible, e.g a clothes peg, a carrot & a penny. But we cached these items somewhere near notices with clues, e.g. "a pony's treat" for the carrots.

We had 2 lots of winners, the fastest time & the team that found the most items. We charged an entry fee with the proceeds going to a charity of the fastest team's choice, & a prize of a voucher for a professional photo session for their dogs for the team that collected the most items.

It seems everyone enjoyed it & the dogs all had great fun charging around the woods chasing squirrels. We only lost one team but were able to give them directions to the pub by phone!! It made our normal Sunday morning stroll into a fun day out & we had some very tired dogs by the end.

Has anyone else tried something like this?
