The lurcher that played "Alfie" in the TV Series Heartbeat for several years, was originally a rescue dog...At this moment I cannot recall his real name...Sorry...

Alfie was originally brought into the series to be Claude Greengrass's dog and then became David's constant companion when Greengrass left the series...

He has now been retired from the show....His "death" from old age in tonight's programme and David's distress at 'losing' him brought tears to many eyes I am sure

Did you see the gorgeous pup David had at the end? It looked like a Spinone Italiano

LOL which weren't in the UK in the 1960's but a gorgeous puppy I think they are lovely dogs with such a wonderful expression

I wonder if they will keep the same puppy or use an older dog in later episodes.

Hi JR Lady just wondered - wasn't there two dogs that have played Archie - I seem to remember another one playing him for a few years and then this one took over

Oh dear I have Archie on the brain (thats tuti's fault ) I meant to say Alfie not Archie
