Janie I'm jealous!!! My yard was just kind of thrown together over the years. You have a real live garden.

Janie, looking good, everything will mature eventually
I want a Buddha too. He looks great just there.
Thanks for all you pics, good to see them all. Perhaps we could revisit during the summer

Nippy - the palm in the photo I posted in message #21, is that the sort of palm you mean by tree palm? Only it does not have a trunk.

Malka, palms are awesome. I wish they existed here, but we only have tons of super tall green trees that are always falling on houses and power lines causing outages.

We fear severe storms, always thinking another TREE is going to fall down. We've had some very close calls and some damage, as well.

That's one of the downsides to having tons of trees, they DO fall down and you can only hope it's not on your house, car, toe (lol) etc.. Insurance cost goes up too because of the risk.

Looking again and Googling, I'm not sure now Malka.
The ones I am thinking of have got trunks. They are very attractive anyway.

Nippy, the palm trees with trunks get taller as they get older - they do have fronds growing out from the trunk but as the tree grows those fronds wither and need cutting off otherwise the whole thing looks a total mess.

I had three of those in front of the first bungalow I rented on the Moshav and my landlord had never bothered to cut off the withered fronds and they looked a total mess. Also almost blocked my view and took away a lot of light. When I mentioned it to my landlord he gruffly said that nobody had ever complained before so he had not bothered, so I said well I am complaining now.

Two days later he turned up with an extending ladder and a saw and cleaned off all the withered fronds - made such a difference!

It has been over 17 years since I moved from there so I have no idea what they look like now.

Our local council in it's wisdom, spent £20,000 on a Palm tree at the start of the main road into Torbay.
Periodically smart alex decorate it! Last year it was Sponge Bob
At the moment it is covered in mysterious green stars, no one knows why!
