dogs facial expressions

I never really saw it until this morning how all four of my girls have very different facial expressions...
I was doing the morning routine groom when I really took note of it... Now pippa's face is very seroius when grooming almost like yeap i'm top dog this is how we do it ..... Bonnie looks totally board at the whole thing !!!! Sophie still looks very sad since her op and her face says ok mum lets just do it but kiss me when you do my ears ......and India has a real cheeky look like come up I go stuff to do don't have time for all this brushing

do your dogs have totally different expressions ???

yeah i know what you mean. i have to get a picture of honey smiling. she actually smiles with her mouth closed. i have been told its a submissive gesture, but its a definate smile.
And of course they do that eyes-half-closed expression when i am eating something they particularly like. i see so many expressions, not all aimed for me, through the dogs, they communicate in such small ways, that seem to mean big things. unoticable to the untrained eye, or the eye that doesnt see. i see a flicker or a blink, thats means 'get away, this is mine' and if harrassed further, then a slight movement of the lip. i think dogs are better at communicating than we are. perhaps through their simplicity, like children, they have better understanding than we suspect or give them credit for.
