Whats causing this?????

Hi, my dog has come out in bumps and very dry itchy skin. This has happened before and we changed his diet and his skin and coat drastically improved and was back to normal. A couple of weeks ago he went in to a lake and since it has reappeared. He has had eye drops as developed gunky eyes and is currently on Apoquel but we are seeing no change -

Can anyone help shed some light on this or advise of treatment, obviously he has already been to the vet hence the Apoquel

have you tried adding fish oil in the diet? supposed to be good for dry skin.

I'm not sure did your vet do a skin scrap?? If he's already on a grain free food then its probably not a food allergy. My Chow Duke lost his hair like that above his tail took him in thought it might be mange but luckily it was a flea allergy. Some flea treatment and cortisone cured him right up. All I can suggest is possibly allergies, mange, or bacteria infection of some short maybe from lake? Sorry couldn't be of more help. He looks miserable try giving him a bath in Oster Oatmeal Natural shampoo. Hope he gets better soon !

I don't know where you are, but in our area the lake has had a dull greenish blue cast for several weeks now. I asked a local angler if this was the dreaded blue-green algae, but he said not. Apparently it is a dye which is added to the water in an attempt to check the growth of weed. I don't know whether this could possibly be connected to your problem, but am not letting my two in there until the colour clears.
