Not Eating When in Whelp

Jazz has not eated properly now for almost 2 weeks
she has 17 days to go until due date, and i am getting really fed up, she is fine and getting bigger every day and has plenty of energy. I have tried allsorts (not bassetts!), from puppy food, to tuna, to tripe to sausages. I am at a loss now, can anyone suggest anything?

she might be too warm as it's been really hot lately, make sure there's plenty of water for her. But Im not sure about her going of her food - give the vet a quick ring and ask is this normal in your breed, if the vets not around the nurse should be.

thanx Azz, it is normal for them to go through this when in whelp, just thought it might be over by now, and wanted to know what other people would suggest to tempt her.

Some bitches do go off their food prior to whelping - others eat more!

I personally would not cater to her whims by offering all different kinds of foods, you will just encourage her to be more picky ... "Ohhh if I leave this maybe mom with offer me something better!" ... it really does work like that! LOL. Stick with one healthy food.

Hi Emma,
My Lilly was a pain when in welp as she won't eat when I put her calcium liquid in her food and then she didn't eat for 5 days after welping except toast with butter on. I have always given my girls scrambled eggs nd hard boiled eggs chopped up for the protein and a little Nature Diet mixed in their food. I would also give a bowl of Skinner Puppy Milk after they have eaten. Hope this helps.

My Rosie wouldn't eat from day 20 after mating, right up to the time she had the pups..........then there was no stopping her, she had a very healthy litter of 7. One day she would try some tripe, next day not touch it.....I think she knew we were worried and did it all the more ops:
