The Oyster Catchers have arrived

Not sure whether this counts as rural talk or not, but I noticed that the Oyster Catchers were back this weekend....that must make it spring

yep, very noisy and very territorial aren't they. Still I guess when you're a bird that nests on the ground you have to do what you can to keep potential preditors at bay.

We have oystercatchers, curlew and lapwings back. Hooray - it feels like spring is definitely here.

We have them here all year round mainly - in fact the curlews often winter here.

Now last week, the Brent Geese were still around (dark breasted) but I would think they will start to go back to Siberia this week.

Spring is sprung when the Brents have gone.
We should start seeing Wheatears arriving from migration about now, as well.

We went down to the RSPB reserve at Dungeness (other end of the country from you) on Monday, and there were a handful there, along with many others, but lovely to see

We also went to my favorite lake and there were a really mardy Swan there protecting his 'woman' and lake, when I look a the photo's I've taken, it's quite frightening at just how close we got to him, but didn't feel threatened as he only had his mind on chasing off the other swans
