Sounds like this is an outdoor class?

If so, try moving him back a little further away from the group. Find the distance he will work at then, over time, bring him closer into the group.

Also, look at the group dynamics - is he interested in some dogs more than others? If so, make sure your place in the group is engineered so that he is in the least stimulating place.

For agility, it doesn't really matter what reward you use except that it should be the one that your dog will work best for

yep it is an outdoor class, although they are in the process of acquiring an indoor venue too. It is in a field and then a smaller area is fenced off with netting for the puppy and obedience classes. We do spread out to work, but as it is a fairly small area there is always another dog not too far away!! Additionally on Saturday there was another collie practising on the equipment in the larger field (not sure why - doesnt usually happen at same time as puppy class) which further distracted Flynn...
I am remaining hopeful for a better performance on Saturday!!

well...quick update to say Flynn did much better today. He is without a doubt more motivated by food when out and about. We did use his toy for some things , but the salami and hot dog did great at holding his attention - even when faced with other bouncy barky dogs and loads of snow !! Yay!!

How old is your dog? Lucy is just almost a year old. She ran her first course in the class last Saturday and did great. We are still just running the channel for the weaves but are gradually closing it up.

She has had some days that she is more interested in sniffing where the horses have been in the indoor arena that we train in but when she is actually doing the equipment she forgets about that.
